Constructing
his fantastic new spaceship, the Starward,
beneath the sea, Tom Swift’s worksite is targeted by strange raiders whose
hypersonic Fire Fury jetcraft is a formidable weapon, a threat wielded by a
fanatical faction known as the Sentimentalists. Invading the Swift home in
Shopton, they demand that Tom solve the mystery of the disappearance of their
leader--an unaccountable disappearance in space! As vengeful,
secret foes work to undermine Swift Enterprises and a rival invention
establishment, the young inventor links the disappearance to an object in the
furthest reaches of our solar system, a space anomaly that hides its nature
within a black region that defies probing by terrestrial science. To reach the
object during the Swift Grand Tour of the outer planets, Tom must perfect a
propulsion system, the cosmotron spacedriver, whose radical space-bending
principle may be as dangerous as the Sentimentalist enemies--and the distant
Black Window itself!
